The Empty Tag - Day 27
Redefining Success in God’s Eyes
Scripture (Habakkuk 3:17–18): “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines… yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
Reflection: You did everything right. You scouted, hiked, waited, glassed, and stayed patient. You gave it your all. But as the season closes and the final light fades, your tag is still unpunched.
No meat in the freezer. No photos to share. Just memories, lessons… and a quiet drive home.
And yet, something deeper lingers, peace.
Because the hunt was never just about the kill. It was about being present. About seeking, listening, learning. About long walks in God’s cathedral. And even in the absence of the “success” the world measures, your soul was fed.
Habakkuk knew this feeling. He looked around and saw no fruit, no crops, no provision — and still he said, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” That’s a deeper kind of faith. A faith that worships not for the outcome, but because of the One who walks with us regardless of it.
The empty tag doesn’t mean failure. Not if you honored the process. Not if you were faithful in the pursuit. Not if your heart stayed soft and your spirit stayed thankful.
Sometimes, the empty tag is exactly where God speaks loudest. And in that quiet moment of surrender, you realize I came out here looking for something to bring home. But what I really found… was Him.
Prayer: God, thank You for meeting me even when things didn’t go as I’d hoped. Thank You for being present in the quiet, the stillness, the unfilled expectations.
Teach me to value the journey, not just the outcome. To rejoice in who You are, not just in what You give. Help me see that success in Your eyes looks very different from the world’s.
And when my hands are empty, let my heart be full of gratitude.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
