Our Story - The White Feathers Ministry
The White Feathers Ministry began with a story we never expected to live.
It began in a season of grief, prayer, questions, and quiet searching. Like many people who walk through loss and hardship, we found ourselves asking whether God was near, whether He heard us, and whether He was still working in the middle of pain we could not fully understand.
Then the white feathers began appearing.
At first, they seemed like small moments of comfort. A feather in an unexpected place. A feather at just the right time. A feather that caused us to pause, look upward, and remember that God had not forgotten us. But over time, those moments became too personal, too precise, and too meaningful to ignore.
Still, the feather was never the message.
The feather was never the Savior.
The feather was simply a reminder. It was a quiet invitation to look beyond the sign and toward the One who was speaking comfort into the storm. The message was not found in the feather itself. The message was Jesus Christ.
Through that season, God began showing us that He is not distant from the hurting, the grieving, the searching, or the brokenhearted. He meets people in ways they can recognize. He comforts the weary heart. He draws us back to Himself. And He reminds us that even when life feels uncertain, His presence is real.
Our story became a testimony of grief, faith, healing, prayer, and the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit. It became the foundation for the book The White Feathers: Faith Through the Storm, and eventually, it became the beginning of The White Feathers Ministry.
But this ministry is not about feathers. It is about Jesus.
The white feathers are part of our testimony, but they are not the foundation of our faith. Our foundation is the Word of God. Our hope is in the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Our comfort comes through the presence and work of the Holy Spirit. The feathers matter only because they pointed our hearts back to Him.
Over time, God continued expanding the message. What began as one family’s testimony grew into books, devotionals, outdoor stories, speaking, and ministry outreach. Much of that message has been shaped by a lifetime spent outdoors — in the mountains, on rivers, in the woods, and in the quiet places where creation reminds us of the Creator.
For more than sixty years, the outdoors has been part of my life. Hunting, fishing, fly fishing, and time in God’s creation have taught me patience, humility, perseverance, wonder, and faith. After nearly fifty years as a believer, I began to see how often God had been teaching spiritual lessons through those outdoor experiences long before I ever thought to write them down.
That realization helped lead to the God Must Be book series — stories and devotionals written to help hunters, fishermen, outdoorsmen, and anyone who loves creation see that God can use the natural world to point us back to Himself.
But the heart of the ministry remains the same.
Whether the story begins with a white feather, a quiet river, a mountain sunrise, a hospital room, a funeral, a hunting camp, or a storm no one else can see, the message we want to share is this: God is real, Jesus saves, and the Holy Spirit still comforts, guides, and works in the lives of ordinary people.
The White Feathers Ministry exists for people who are hurting, searching, grieving, wondering, or trying to find their way back to faith. It exists for the person who has prayed through tears, the person who has felt forgotten, the person who loves the outdoors but may not yet know the Creator, and the person who needs to be reminded that God has not abandoned them.
This is our story.
But maybe it speaks to yours too.
The feather is not the message.
Jesus is the message.
And if this ministry helps one person look up, turn back to God, and find hope in Christ, then the story was worth sharing.
