Bones and Antlers - Day 24

What Once Was Lost Can Live Again

Scripture (Ezekiel 37:4–5): “Then he said to me, ‘Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.’”

Reflection:

And yet, somehow, they still speak.

To the hunter, bones and antlers aren’t always signs of defeat — sometimes they’re signs of persistence. Of the cycle of life. Of where things once were and where they may rise again. They remind us that nothing in the wilderness is wasted. Even death leaves behind a kind of beauty. You come across them when you least expect it — a sun-bleached skull resting in tall grass, antlers tangled in sagebrush, bones scattered across a forgotten trail. Nature’s remains. Quiet monuments to what once lived, moved, and roamed wild.

That’s what Ezekiel saw in the valley of dry bones.

A place of ruin. Loss. Silence. But God told him to speak — to prophesy to what looked dead. And then, by the breath of the Lord, those bones began to rattle. To reconnect. To stand. To live again.

Maybe you’ve walked through a dry valley lately — emotionally, spiritually, relationally. Maybe there are places in your life that feel like scattered bones. Lifeless. Past their prime. Too far gone.

But the God of the hunt is also the God of resurrection.

He speaks to what looks hopeless and brings it back. He breathes on what’s brittle and makes it strong again. He takes what lies forgotten in the grass and turns it into testimony.

So today, don’t just walk past the bones. Let them remind you — nothing is too far gone for God to restore.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are the God of dry bones. You see what is broken and scattered, and You speak life over it. Where I see finality, You see beginnings.

Breathe into the places in my life that feel dead — the dreams I’ve given up on, the parts of my heart I’ve stopped believing You can heal. Call them back to life.

And may I never forget: the bones I find today could be the evidence of Your miracle tomorrow.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
