Field Dressing the Blessing - Day 23
Honoring God Through the Work Behind the Gift
Scripture (Colossians 3:23–24): “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Reflection: The shot is only the beginning.
Now the real work begins — field dressing, quartering, packing out. It's messy. It's exhausting. It’s done with cold fingers, aching knees, and quiet reverence. Every cut matters. Every move is part of honoring the animal. You treat it with care because the gift was never yours to abuse — it was yours to steward.
The same is true with blessings from God.
Sometimes we pray for provision, for breakthrough, for opportunities — and when they come, we forget they come with responsibility. We want the mountaintop moment, but not the hands-in-the-work follow-through.
But Colossians reminds us: Whatever you do, do it with your whole heart — not for applause, but for the Lord. That includes the unseen, uncelebrated tasks. The quiet diligence. The work after the “win.”
When God blesses you — with success, with favor, with responsibility — He invites you to steward that blessing with care. To dress the harvest. To do the work behind the scenes. To treat every part of the process with integrity, gratitude, and excellence.
Field dressing isn’t glamorous, but it’s sacred. So is every act of obedience that follows the moment God shows up.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the blessings You’ve given me — not just the moments of favor, but the work that follows. Help me to approach that work with gratitude, with care, and with all my heart.
Let me not grow lazy or entitled after the blessing, but diligent and faithful. Whether I’m shouldering a pack or scrubbing a floor, help me remember it’s You I’m serving.
Make me a good steward of every gift. And let my worship be seen not just in what I receive — but in how I respond.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
