No Shot Taken - Day 22

Trusting God’s Timing and Restraint

Scripture (Proverbs 3:5–6): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Reflection: There it was. Broadside. Within range. You had the crosshairs steady, the safety off, your breath held. And then… you didn’t take the shot.

Not because you couldn’t — but because something in your spirit said, Not now.

Walking back to camp empty-handed can feel like failure. You replay the moment again and again. Should I have? Could I have? Did I miss my only chance?

But sometimes, the most faithful decision is restraint.

Proverbs reminds us to trust not in our own understanding, but in God’s guidance — to submit to His ways, not just our goals. That includes the moments when everything looks right… but peace hasn’t come. When instinct and ethics are aligned, but the Spirit hasn’t given release.

Obedience to God isn’t always about action. Sometimes it’s about what we don’t do. The opportunity you walk away from. The opinion you don’t express. The door you don’t force open.

And in those moments, God is watching — not with disappointment, but with joy. Because He sees the bigger story. He knows the trail ahead. And when you trust Him enough to let an opportunity pass, He honors that trust in ways you can’t yet imagine.

You may not have meat in the pack today. But you’ve harvested something deeper: faith, restraint, peace.

And that’s a good day in the woods.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for reminding me that not every open shot is meant to be taken. Teach me to listen — not just to my instincts, but to Your Spirit. Give me the courage to say “no” when You are saying “wait.”

Help me to walk in wisdom, not pressure. In peace, not pride. And when I don’t understand the “why,” help me trust that You do.

You lead me with perfect timing. I want to follow with willing faith.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
