The Joy of the Harvest - Day 21
Gratitude and Humility in Blessing
Scripture (James 1:17): “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Reflection: The moment of a hunting harvest is holy.
All the effort — the scouting, the patience, the early mornings, the long hikes, the close calls — it all comes to this. A clean shot. A life taken. A gift received. And you kneel beside the animal not with gloating, but with gratitude.
Because you know: this didn’t happen by accident.
No matter your preparation or skill, something greater had to align. The wind, the timing, the movement — all beyond your control. And so, you bow your head and give thanks.
That’s how it is with every good gift in life.
James reminds us that every blessing — not just some — comes from above. Your family. Your health. Your friendships. Your provision. Your very breath. You may have worked hard, but the One who made it all possible deserves the glory.
The harvest should never lead us to pride. It should lead us to worship.
Whether you’ve filled a tag this season or your “harvest” looks like answered prayer, renewed strength, or a peaceful heart — don’t forget to thank the Giver, not just enjoy the gift.
Joy deepens when it’s rooted in gratitude. And gratitude begins when you realize: you didn’t do this alone.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the harvest — for every gift You’ve given me, whether in the woods or in my daily life. Teach me not to take blessings for granted, but to see them for what they truly are: grace.
Keep me humble in success. Let my joy be marked by reverence, not entitlement. And help me to honor the blessings You give by living with open hands, a thankful heart, and a spirit of generosity.
You are the Giver of all good things — and I praise You.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
